Power Chair Lifts

Throughout history the human race has been known for its many inventions. Some of these inventions have helped us greatly. One invention that has truly helped us is the power chair lift.

Contrary to popular belief however, the power chair lift is not new. In fact, the invention dates back to the 1920's, and wasn't patented until the 1930's. There are in fact two different types of power chairs out there, and we will cover both of them. The first chair is actually based on a recliner.

The prototype for this chair actually used a prototype recliner, and its function is fairly simple. This is a motorized chair that can actually tilt forward, allowing the user to step out of the chair without assistance. This type of chair has become quite popular among the elderly, and even in certain nursing homes.

The chair is basically the recliner on a metal frame with a structure that is able to lift off of the frame. The mechanical side of it is basically a scissor style lifting system that can be lifted nearly as high as the user requires. In other words it can give the user anything from a subtle push to a dump on the level of a forklift.

The operation of these chairs is usually not manual. Typically you will find that there is a wired remote control that is attached to the chair and it has a number of different controls. There are two controls for the lift, those being raising and lowering. Normally if you push the chair back a certain distance it will begin to recline, but in other cases there will be a second recline option.

The other function will typically raise the footrest, though the footrest might be tied to a different function entirely. Like we said before, in some cases chairs have multiple functions tied to one button, so make sure you look for this when you are in the market for power chair car lifts. Keep in mind that these chair sound cool in theory, but some people will find it annoying at best.

What you have to understand is that this chair is made for a select few people. For instance, the elderly will find the chair to be very useful as they often have trouble standing up without assistance. Those who have broken bones, paralysis, or another condition that inhibits their movement will find the chair to be extremely useful.

The other type of chair lift is a chair that sits on a track and is able to move up and down stairways with relative ease. This type of power lift chair closely resembles an office chair and is relatively easy to operate. These can be seen in many establishments such as churches, funeral homes, nursing home, etc, and are able to transport anyone within the weight limit up the stairs. There are many different models of mobility chair lifts, some of which are noisy, and some that are very quiet.

The best part about this type of chair is that your insurance company will most likely pay for it. It is ultimately cheaper for an insurance company to pay for a motorized chair than it would be for them to actually pay for an injury related to walking up or down a set of stairs in the home.

Both of these are great inventions that help both the elderly and the injured in their everyday lives. Keep in mind that you do not want to think of price as an object when you are choosing an electric wheelchair lift. You will find that low price and low quality will end up in a broken chair or a serious injury, and your insurance company will tell you the same thing. That being said, it's time to call your insurance company or go shopping for a new power lift chair.
